It's (Vice Presidentially) Debatable!

This Thursday evening from 8:00 to 9:30 the two candidates for the office of VICE President will have a debate; the debate will take place in Danville, Kentucky, and address topics concerning both foreign and domestic policy. I encourage you to watch at least fifteen minutes of the debate to get a sense of the candidates' perspectives and to see how tonight's debate looks, sounds, and feels different from the first Presidential debate (again, several major networks and cable networks will carry the debates--it's worth switching to see the ways in which different channels choose to broadcast the event). If you are interested, watch at least fifteen minutes about the debate and then write a brief comment to this post. Your comment can address the following questions, but please do not just write a list of answers--instead, write your thoughts in a brief paragraph. 1. What questions do you have about the Vice Presidential candidates' ideas? 2. What questions would you like to ask of both the candidates? 3. How did tonight's debate look, sound, and feel similar and different to the first Presidential debate? 4. Anything else you would like to add? As a reminder, this is NOT an opportunity for you to voice your support of one candidate or another--please keep your comments focused on questions and the important elements of the debate as a way for the candidates to convey their ideas. Also, remember to sign in as "Anonymous" and to sign your FIRST name, then a comma, then Nekrosius (for example--Frodo, Nekrosius). Enjoy the debate!

This is Mr. Nekrosius--for those students of mine who are watching the Vice Presidential debate tonight, I'm curious what you think about the different style and tone? Do you see a difference in the way the moderator is addressing the candidates? Are there questions you would like to ask of the candidates?

The format of the debate seems to be the same as the first one. Both guys went over their amount of time to speak. I would like to ask both of them how much influence they have over the presidents?

The moderator is being more powerful then Jim Lehrer was in the presidential debate. I think that Biden is being a lot more aggressive then Obama was. I noticed that they both shook hands like the president and Romney did. They are also wearing red and blue times again. I would also like to ask Mr. Ryan to give me the answers to the questions. I feel like he is dodging, lying, and flip-flopping. I would also like to hear plans from him. He never did answer the question about how he was going to pay for the tax cuts. I have no questions for Mr. Biden. I think that the absence of podiums gives the moderator more power and makes the VP nominees pay more attention to each other. Also, making the nominees sit down reduces the body language that they can display. I like this debate format more then the other. I also think this debate was done better by both nominees.

Harrison makes some good points about the difference the seated format has from the podium format--something that might be interesting would be to see what would happen if we had two candidates seated facing each other, asking each other questions. It has definitely been an interesting debate!

Why do they feel what they think about abortion. Biden: Why do you call Romney and Ryan your friends are you actually friends? Ryan: Why do you think we should bring the troops back home, they might create a bomb when we leave. Biden was much more oppressive than Obama, and neither of them were very clear about what they think they were asked for their opinion, but they told us what would happen if they were re-elected/elected. Biden and Ryan smiled a lot at each other when the other one was talking but they did not smile when they were talking. I felt they were a bit childish with the debates.
