Hello, everybody. And by everybody, I mean Mr. Nekrosius's seventh grade humanities students at the University of Chicago Lab School, and anybody else who happens to drop in.
By now you should be used to posting responses to questions assigned in class; we'll continue to have those kinds of assignments in this new forum, and I look forward to seeing the same depth of thought, intellectual curiosity, and mutual respect that you have displayed in all your other endeavors show up in these posts.
I will also periodically post brief questions, ideas, or information related to class here--you should all feel free to respond if you wish, or to propose independent postings of your own. This blog is a place for us to engage in a different kind of conversation than those we have in class. Let's make the most of it.

Cool, it's intesting posting on blogs, and the cartoon was cool.

Compared to O'brien's original piece, "The Man Killed", "Ambush" was a clearer explanation of what happened. I felt I was able to connect more with what O'Brien was saying in "Ambush", even though the first version was a little more detailed. I liked "Ambush" more because the section where Tim imagines what the man's life was like was omitted. This seemed unnessassary to me. I favored the second version because it was more concise, and portrayed what happened in a different way that was important to understanding WHY O'brien threw the grenade. It explained how O'brien felt as he was preparing to kill the man as well as how he felt afterward. It was important and interesting to me to understand what he was thinking and feeling before and as he threw the grenade. It was easier to understand why tim threw it, which was not explained in great detail in the first story. Therefore, in my opinion, "Ambush" presented a more accurate portrayal of what really happened in this story, and showed important details that the first version did not.

Anyway, I thought that perhaps you should email the URL around to other teachers. It seems to be a community of just students!
Ms. Doyle's Blog had a teacher come from another school that we didn't know, and we actually had a discussion over the blog comments!
Anyway, I thought that your blog could use those extra hits.
